Call for Entries in the Rochester Writers’ 2018 Summer Writing Contest
Categories: Poetry, Flash Fiction, First Page, Colorful Memoir
Prizes: Cash Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places in each category. In addition, Best of Show will receive a complimentary pass to a future Rochester Writers’ Conference.

Eligibility Rules: All work submitted must be original, previously unpublished, and it must be submitted online or by U.S. Mail by the deadline. Author retains all rights. Rochester Writers’ will not publish any submitted work without permission, but retains the right to publish any and all of the authors’ names and titles of work. Open to all writers. Anyone under the age of 18 must submit with written legal guardian approval. All submissions must be in English. Only the title, body of work, and category should be on the front of the page. If submitting by mail: Contact information must be on the back of page (name, address, email, phone, category and word count) of entry. If submitting electronically: Contact information must be on a separate page from the entry. All electronic entries must be in a Microsoft WORD DOC or in the text body of the email (do not send PDF files). Winners will be announced at the Fall 2018 Rochester Writers’ Conference. Prizes and Certificates will be awarded at the event or mailed out after. Winners in attendance may read their work to the conference attendance at a specified time.
Description of Categories:
- Margo LaGattuta Poetry Submission: 200 words or fewer, any style, one complete poem.
- Flash Fiction Submission: 400-500 words, one complete short story.
- First Page of Novel Submission: 250 words or fewer, the first page of a novel.
- Colorful Memoir: 300-400 words, non-fiction. From a personal experience, describe a color without using the color’s name. Tell a story in which the reader thinks of one particular color by the end. Do not use the name of the color in the story or in the title, but include it with your contact info.
Word Count: Limit is for the body of work only and does not count toward title of work.

Entry Fees: Once submitted, entry fees are non-refundable. Please review the rules BEFORE submission. Payment indicates you are in agreement with the rules of this contest.
Number of Entries: Submit one (1) entry in any category for $10.00. Submit two to four (2-4) entries within any of the categories for $20.00.

Judging: Independent judges will judge the separate Categories. Then the first place winners from each category will go in front of a different panel of judges to pick the Best of Show.
