WRITING CONTEST

Call for Entries in the Rochester Writers’ 2014 Summer Writing Contest

Categories:  Poetry, Micro Fiction, Flash Fiction, First Page

Prizes:  1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash ($50, $25, $10 respectively) awards in each category plus a best of show

Entry:  Entry to contest will begin on April 15, 2014

Deadline:  July 31, 2014

Eligibility Rules:  All work submitted must be original, previously unpublished, and it must be submitted online or by U.S. Mail by the deadline. Author retains all rights. Rochester Writers’ will not publish any submitted work but retains the right to publish the author’s name and title of work. Open to all writers. Anyone under the age of 18 must submit with written legal guardian approval. All submissions must be in English. Only the title and body of work should be on the front of the page. If submitting by mail: Contact information must be on the back of page (name, address, email, phone and word count) of entry. If submitting electronically: Contact information must be on a separate page from the entry. All electronic entries must be in a WORD DOC or in the text body of the email. Winners will be announced prior to the October 2014 Rochester Writers’ Conference. Prizes and Awards will be handed out at the conference. Winners in attendance may read their work to the conference attendance at a specified time. Prizes and Awards will be mailed to the winners not in attendance of the fall event.

Description of Categories:

  • Margo LaGattuta Poetry Submission: 200 words or fewer, any style, one complete poem
  • Micro Fiction Submission:  100 words or fewer, one complete story
  • 333 Flash Fiction Submission: three-word-title, three characters (must have three and only three characters), 333 words or fewer, one complete story
  • First Page of Novel Submission:  250 words or fewer, first page of a novel

Word Count: Limit is for the body of work only and does not count toward title of work.

Entry Fee:  You may submit up to three works (any category) for $10.00. Enter additional work for $5.00 each. Once submitted, entry fees are non-refundable.

Entry to the Spring Writing Contest is now closed.

A new contest will begin in October.
